On the 21st of August Taroko the whale shark passed away and I couldn't stop thinking about it all week. Taroko was very rarey because he is one of the few whale sharks that are displayed in an aquarium, I was lucky enough to see him in Atlanta last year on a work trip. The thing about whale sharks in aquariums is that they're not suppose to be in an aquarium, they are these MASSIVE "Fish??" Whales?? Sharks?? something in between? animal and they're essentially in a cage. After doing some research I discovered that they essentially rescued him from a fishing boat accident and they kept him because they couldn't release him back into the wild because of all the injuries he recieved. There is something fantastic about the idea that they would build these HUGE 25,000 gallon tanks for one animal, it was like they worshipped him they gave him round the clock care and kept him fed daily I like to think he lived a wonderful life in captivity at the expense of mobility. These jackets are my dedication to him. Taroko as long as I am alive you will always be loved.
